Holiday Gathering

Dear Families,
Please join us to celebrate the holiday season on Tuesday, December 23rd, from 2:00-3:00 in the classroom.  We would love to see you there!  We will share food, crafts, and holiday music.

Exploring GOOP!!

What do you get when you mix corn starch (a solid) with water (a liquid)??  The answer is something we like to call GOOP!  GOOP is so cool to investigate as it has the properties of both a solid and a liquid.  Here we are getting messy . . . this was our culminating activity in our study of solids and liquids.  When we return after the Thanksgiving break we will begin a new social studies unit on Mapping.

Factory Tour at Ben & Jerry's

Students enjoyed a factory tour at Ben & Jerry's in Waterbury.  We connected what we have been learning about in our science study of Solids and Liquids with the process involved in making ice cream.  Here we are sampling a tasty new flavor-- Apple Pie a la Mode.

Field Trip to the Burnham Library

 

First Grade classes took a walking field trip to the Burnham Library as part of our study of Community Helpers. 

Dear Families,
Our class used a technology tool called "Padlet" to display our learning about Community Helpers.  We hope you enjoy exploring our Padlet!!  It was fun to create.  Today we walked to the Burnham Library and had the opportunity to explore all that our wonderful library has to offer.  On Monday, several members of the Colchester Fire Department will be here for a Fire Safety Presentation.  And last week, officers from the Colchester Police Department were here to tell us about their profession and what they do to help keep our community a safe place to live.  Thank you to all Colchester Community Helpers for all you do!  We have enjoyed this unit of study.

Dear families, 

 We hope you enjoy our self portraits! They were a lot of fun to create. We have certainly had a great time getting to know our friends just a little bit better over the last several weeks. We have talked about the many ways that we are all different in addition to the many ways that we are similar. We look forward to seeing you all at open house this Thursday. You will see the self portraits hanging in the classroom. Students will also have the opportunity to share with you two books that we have put together in class-- one being our book of Hopes and Dreams, and the other a book, fittingly, about our similarities and differences.
